Sasak puppet is special puppet of Sasak tribe living in Lombok. Sasak puppet similar to Bali puppet. Based on the history Sasak puppets has existed in Lombok since 1464 M. Wayang Sasak formerly used to preach Islam in Lombok. But now, Sasak puppet commonly presented in exhibition or cultural show.

gamelan that accompanies wayang Sasak composed of ceng-ceng, suling, tawa-tawa, kendang, pleret, and kempul. Sasak puppet show, only takes about 10 people consisting of a puppeteer, two assistants to organize puppet puppeteer and seven drummers of gamelan.

In Lombok island, the famous puppeter is Lalu Nasip. He practiced with puppet since 5 grade of elementary school. Within big hope that young generation helped to preserve this culture.

Anybody loves being in peak, top of one place? You can come to Sembalun. Sembalun is a district in East Lombok, exactly it is located in steep slopes of Mountain Rinjani. Sembalun is divided into two villages; Sembalun Lawang and Sembalun Bumbung.

The area in Sembalun transformed into a fertile land. Sembalun Lawang is set in an ancient and fertile caldera to the east of Mountain Rinjani, the preferred access route for summiteers. The rich soil produces high quality market garden crops, including the famous garlic and rice, staple of local farmers. The beautiful valley of Sembalun is also known for its hill walks, recently restored traditional village, active cultural performers and local weavers.

1. Visit the flower gardens and orchards, there are apples and stawberry orchards here. You can buy ticket and enjoy the panorama while eating fruits.
2. Interact with local community, join their customary activities, and feel the sensation of being locals
3. Take a walk to some reccomended sites by locals, enjoy the cold and fresh air.
4. Wake up early to see sunrise and wait for sunset to come

We’re gonna post about Ogoh-Ogoh. Have you ever heard about it? Bali as the central region of hinduism peolple in Idonesia is not the only place where Ogoh-Ogoh parade takes place. In Lombok, there’s also Ogoh-Ogoh parade which takes time a day befor Nyepi.

Ogoh-ogoh statues normally have form of mythological beings, mostly demons. As with many creative endeavours based on Balinese Hinduism, the creation of Ogoh-ogoh represents spiritual aims inspired by Hindu philosophy. The main purpose of the making of Ogoh-ogoh is the purification of the natural environment of any spiritual pollutants emitted from the activities of living beings (especially humans). The forms of Ogoh-ogoh represent the Bhuta-Kala (Bhuta: eternal energy, Kala: eternal time), according to Hindu teachings. Aside from being the symbol of Bhuta-Kala, Ogoh-ogoh is considered a symbol of modes of nature that form the malicious characters of living beings.

During the procession, the Ogoh-ogoh is rotated counter-clockwise three times. Rotating the effigies during the cremational parade and the eve of Nyepi represents the contact of the bodies with the spirits. It is intended to bewilder the evil spirits so that they go away and cease harming human beings.

West Nusa Tenggara has some beautiful waterfalls. One of them was on our previous post, here. We have one more, one of those popular waterfall to visit in Lombok. It’s called Singang Gila or Sendang Gila.

Singang Gila is located in Bayan, North Lombok, precisely at Senaru. It takes 2,5 to 3 hours from Mataram to get there. Before arriving the entrance, we need to walk at about some minutes. Be patience, because the road isn’t that good. Well, than to get to the waterfall we have to walk down the stairs, hundreds of steps. But it’s worth the trip, actually!! Your pain will be paid with beautiful scenery and fresh water.

If you are brave enough, you can go to the second waterfall (there are two waterfall here in one location), but it takes an effort, Because the track is bit diffiicult. Once again, IT’S WORTH THE PAIN!!
